[ARCHIVED] Columbus to Host "A Day with Lewy" at Kestrel Ridge on November 10th

Columbus, WI is proud to host the only event for learning and understanding of dementia caregiving with a focus on Lewy Body in the State. A Day with Lewy: Lewy Body Dementia and the Caregiving Journey conference will take place Thursday, November 10, 2022, from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM at Kestrel Ridge Golf Course, located at 900 Avalon Road. Open to everyone, this conference will be in-person, you can sign up online for this free event.

This one-of-a-kind conference is presented by the Columbus Wisconsin Senior Center in partnership with the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Columbia, Dodge and Jefferson Counties (ADRC), Alzheimer's & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin (ADAW), Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA) and SSM Health.

Lewy body dementia (LBD) is a brain disorder that can lead to problems with thinking, movement, behavior, and mood. Visual hallucinations, or seeing things that are not there, are a common symptom, and tend to happen early on. More than 1 million people in the United States are diagnosed with LBD, which is one of the most common forms of dementia. It is a progressive disease, meaning symptoms start slowly and worsen over time.

This program will allow participants to discover caregiver resources, hear from expert keynotes, learn new skills, and connect with local experts with several presentations and break-out sessions. A Day with Lewy will feature a viewing of the documentary: SPARK: Robin Williams and his Battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Those in attendance will get to meet Dr. Gary Schmidt who has LBD. 

A welcome message from Rob Griesel, Dementia Care Specialist, Dodge County ADRC and Janet Wiegel, Dementia Outreach Specialist, ADAW kicks off the conference followed by presentations and break-out sessions. Closing remarks by Sue Lynch, MSW: Columbia County ADRC Director, and Brittany Borchardt: Dodge County ADRC Director, Janet Wiegel: Dementia Outreach Specialist, ADAW, Rob Griesel: Dementia Care Specialist, Dodge County ADRC, and Kim Lang: Columbus Area Senior Center Director.  You can download the conference flyer for the full schedule of events.

Registration will take place from 8:00 AM - 8:30 PM. Lunch will be provided at the conference. Door prize winners will be announced from 3:45 PM - 4:00 PM at the end of the conference.
