[ARCHIVED] City Hall Telephone Number Used in "Spoofing" Attempt

Several citizens report that they have received calls from a number associated with City Hall that are clearly not related to city business. We believe that the Columbus City Hall number - (920) 623-5900 – is being used in a “spoof” operation in order to get residents to divulge personal information.


If you think you are being spoofed, please hang up without giving personal information. City Hall staff will never call you to ask for Social Security numbers or credit card numbers by phone!


Caller ID spoofing is the practice of causing the telephone network to indicate to the receiver of a call that the originator of the call is a station other than the true originating station.
