In an effort to keep sidewalks safe for pedestrians this winter, the City of Columbus has revised its sidewalk-clearing fees to residents. Please be aware of the following:
Sidewalks must be cleared of snow within 24 hours after precipitation ceases. If your sidewalk is not cleared within 24 hours of a snowfall, the Department of Public Works will issue a warning. If the work is not completed within 24 hours of the notice, appropriate measures will be taken to make the sidewalk safely passable for pedestrians. I.e. Public Works staff will clear your sidewalk.
In the event that the City is forced to remove snow from sidewalk abutting your property, you will be charged a fee.. Effective January 25th, this fee will will be $111.57 base fee, plus $1.00 for every linear foot of sidewalk cleared. The City charges these costs to recover the costs of sending City personnel and equipment to clear the sidewalk.
Residents are encouraged to report sidewalks that have not been cleared in the allotted amount of time. To do so, please contact the Public Works Department at 920-623-5908. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter, and best wishes for safe and healthy winter walking!
