[ARCHIVED] Police Department issues phone scam warning

The Columbus Police Department has received numerous complaints today from citizens that have been called by a subject claiming to be from the Columbus Police Department.

This individual claims that the citizen has a warrant for their arrest and that they are going to be arrested. In one of these cases they claimed that the citizen could pay the warrant.

This is not how warrants are processed by the Police Department and we want to ensure that personal information is not given out to these subjects. The number that the suspect calls from is still an active VoIP number that has a voicemail set up claiming to be the “Columbus Police Department warrants and civil citations division” which may lead some to believe this is a legitimate call. The Columbus Police Department does not have a division like this.

If anyone receives this type of call and is concerned they may actually have a court related issue please feel free to call the Columbus Police at 920-623-5919, again please do not give out any personal information or send any money to these subjects.
