[ARCHIVED] 2016 City Street Project - June 27th Update

Here is your weekly update on the 2016 Street Project, for June 27th.

Charles Street: I received word that the landscapers will be on Charles Street on Wednesday this week to continue restoration efforts. Work crews had been working on the water main work on James last week, and the poor soils on Mill Street have contributed to some of these delays. Hopefully the weather cooperates and progress can be made. The contractor is working to schedule the pavers to apply the top layer of asphalt in coordination with the other areas of the project.

Prairie & Church Streets: The paving there is finished and I believe that restoration would be the focus there as well.

Mill Street: Efforts will continue to complete the stretch that is Lewis to Main Street with all the utilities and putting the street in a rebuild, before focus turns to the area that is Main Street to Ludington. The utility lines have allowed for this street to essentially be worked in 2 phases and work will continue on the first part so that access and travel through that area can be much improved.

Birdsey Street: I will take this opportunity to apologize for the quick start on Birdsey. I personally did not get an indication that the full blown work was to get started as early as it did, as my notes still indicated an early July start – and I realize that it created confusion and issue for those properties there. While the work on it continues with hopes that it will be completed on a sooner timeframe, the initial work there should have come with greater notice to you there.

Damage: We have been received reports of damage to existing sidewalks and some of the newly poured sidewalks. Also some of the questions relative to the new infrastructure and issues that have occurred during the construction. The reports are necessary so that they can be followed up on, documented and addressed. However, please be patient and note that these items will be addressed before the project is considered complete. Also know that an potential issues can’t be addressed unless we are made aware of them – so thank you for sending in your information.
