[ARCHIVED] Summer Concert Series: July 1st

A special night of the Columbus Historic Landmarks & Preservation Commission (CHLPC) SUMMER CONCERT SERIES, Sunday, July 1st, features 3 local area rock & roll bands.  Live bands will be performing at the infamous Beer Garden in Fireman’s Park. Concert is free to the community. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and music starts at 6:00 p.m.  Beer and beverages will be sold, with proceeds going directly to the Pavilion Project Fund, for continued improvements to the 100 year old iconic Pavilion.  No carry-in please. Brats will be sold supporting the Masonic Lodge #75.  Must be 21. (Minors must be accompanied by a parent).

The Beer Garden, originally and technically called the concession stand, was built by local area firemen in 1964.  Fred Dartt, former Fire Chief, recalls the cement block building was erected very close to the spot where an entertainment mound previously stood. Long-time area residents may remember sitting on the ground to watch the local high school band perform a concert on the mound, or to attend an ecumenical church service there.

The special Sunday, July 1st live music concert in the Beer Garden will feature rock & roll bands Hickory Road, The Sharrows, and All Murder.

Hickory Road

HICKORY ROAD, with up to 6 band members includes guitar, sax, bass, drums, keyboard and vocals.  Based in Madison, the group formed in 2014.  They enjoy performing the classic rock & roll sound with a modern flavor.  They write some of their own material and have recorded at the Warm Glow Studios in Madison.

The Sharrows

THE SHARROWS, formed in 2011 when they first assembled on the family farm to jam.  Their laid back sounds are now referred to as “farm rock genre.”  Their music is bluesy and rootsy rock & roll, played by a core of four members including local, Joe Hermanson.  The other members are from Madison and at most gigs, additional friends join in to jam along.  This small group with local roots has toured nationally and recorded three albums.

All Murder

ALL MURDER is a punk rock band composed of all locals; Corey Williams (drums) Jon Rappe (bassist) and John Salzwedel (guitar) who all perform the vocals.  They formed in 2009 out of fondness for playing songs by punk rock band, The Misfits.  Williams (and his brother Shawn), Rappe and Salzwedel have played together going back as far as 1998 when they were all members of YLAB, a Madison band whose songs were styled in Post-Skare Punk and Thrash Metal.  All Murder features the Danzig era covers.  In February of 2018, they recoreded a cover from Cancerlug, another Misfits-inspired band, at Megaton Studios in Madison.
