[ARCHIVED] Summer Concert Series Begins June 28

Columbus Historic Landmarks & Preservation Commission (CHLPC) Summer Concert Series kicks off Thursday, June 28 when they welcome Mark Croft and his six-piece band. Croft was born and raised in Columbus. Now living in Madison and performing full-time and writing songs since 2005, he has made a name for himself and his band as a singer, songwriter, and acoustic guitar player.  He takes his inspiration from a variety of musical genres and blends them into his own style of Roots, Pop, and Americana for his presentations.  While sometimes performing alone, for this kick-off concert his five fellow band members will be joining him for the evening’s entertainment.  Mark and his band are looking forward to rock’in the night on Thursday, June 28th here in his home town of Columbus!Mark Croft

Built in 1916, the Pavilion was the first structure to be erected in Fireman’s Park.  This postcard from circa 1920 was recently discovered, showing the Pavilion in the background with a bandstand on the right along with a concession stand and bleachers on the left.  Columbus Historic Landmarks & Preservation Commission members are bringing concerts back to this same area in the park for three evenings this summer.  Music genres will be contemporary, but the venue is historic!

CHLPC will be sponsoring 3 more concerts at the park as part of the Summer Concert Series this summer.  Thursday, July 26 features the Loco Vocals from Beaver Dam, Thursday, August 23rd the Driftless Blue Grass Band, and a special Sunday, July 1st concert featuring rock and roll bands Hickory Road, The Sharrows, and All Murder.  So mark your calendars, tell your friends, pack your coolers for the Thursday nights, and enjoy some free live music at Fireman’s Park this summer!

Live music concerts will be held at Fireman’s Park.  Concerts will move to the newly updated Pavilion in case of rain.  Live music is from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. featuring local area talent.

While enjoying the music, attendees are encouraged to bring their own beverages, blankets, and chairs.  (No glass containers please)  Popcorn will be available for purchase, supporting the iconic Hasey Popcorn Wagon.

Concerts are free to the community, so gather up your staff, friends, and the whole family for some great evenings of live music at Fireman’s Park.  Donations are always appreciated and go directly to continued improvements to the Pavilion. CHLPC’s future goals for the Pavilion include; refinishing the ballroom floors, new windows, and exterior painting. Tax-deductible donations can be mailed to CHLPC, 105 N. Dickason Blvd., Columbus, WI  53925 or contact Carolyn Fredericks at cfredericks@columbuswi.us, 920-210-3359, or contact any of the great CHLPC members.

A special thank you to the many local businesses for their support and excitement of returning live music and camaraderie at Fireman’s Park for all to enjoy! CHLPC hopes this is the start to “a new” ongoing tradition!
