A new year means new road construction. While not always painless, the end result of street work is a welcome sight.
This year the city will be completely reconstructing the entirety of South Water Street as well as the portion of East School Street between South Water and Ludington Streets. A complete reconstruction means all of the existing roadway will be removed and the street will be rebuilt from the base layer on up.
The remainder of East School Street (between Water and Waterloo Streets) will receive mill and overlay. In this process the existing street is ground down slightly and then a new layer of asphalt will be poured over top.
The infrastructure work will include replacement of sanitary sewer and sanitary sewer laterals within the right of way. Storm sewer inlets and storm sewer manholes will be replaced to improve drainage. Water main and water services will be replaced within the right of way. The project will also include new curb and gutter, new driveway aprons and new sidewalk.
