They then direct the customer to transfer funds electronically, sometimes through money wiring systems or pre-paid cards. Columbus Water & Light NEVER demands immediate payment from customers over the phone. You shouldn't give your personal information to strangers. Property Crimes 08/03/2017

Area law enforcement agencies in both Columbia and Dodge counties have seen an increase in thefts from motor vehicles and burglaries. We suspect that property is being stolen and pawned or exchanged for illegal drugs. In Columbus in the past, we had some incidents of unlocked cars being rummaged through and small items being stolen. We believed this to be drug related as well. A few years ago we arrested a young couple who were working together in committing daytime residential burglaries to support their illegal drug habit.

While we are not experiencing these types of incidents in Columbus at this time, we suspect that with the area thefts and burglaries occurring, these suspects could potentially target the Columbus area. Unattended motor vehicles should be locked. The majority of thefts from cars  that we experienced occurred during the overnight hours and most vehicles that were targeted were left unlocked in a driveway or on the street.

Any suspicious activity should be reported to law enforcement right away.
