Mayor Joe Hammer

Welcome to our city. As a Columbus resident I’m proud of our many positive attributes. We are a friendly community which features an historic downtown, beautiful parks, a hospital, Amtrak Station, Community Center, Aquatic Center, top-rated schools and easy access to both lively urban and scenic rural areas.

Stop at one of our downtown shops for gifts, antiques or a locally brewed beer and then stay to enjoy a tasty meal at one of our restaurants. Try kayaking on the Crawfish River, or swimming at our Aquatic Center. Admire our historic Pavilion in Fireman’s Park in which Hollywood and television actor Fred MacMurray once played his saxophone. We are especially known for our beautiful redbud trees which bloom in the spring.

Get Involved!

The City of Columbus has a number of commissions and committees which are open to city residents and rely on citizen volunteers. These include such areas as parks and recreation, historic landmarks, community development, tourism, and the police and fire commission. Go to our Boards, Committees, and Commissions page where you can find the links to all available committees and commissions.
