Economic Development

The City of Columbus is proud of the innovative, active and stable industrial base in our community. As an example of their commitment to expand this base, the City Council created the local Community Development Authority. This seven-member quasi-public agency works to assist new and existing industrial and commercial businesses within the city. The three main focus areas of the CDA are:

1. Business expansion and retention
2. Maintaining the high quality and diversity of industry within the city, and
3. Long-range planning for economic development.

The CDA has the legal authority to purchase and sell land for economic development purposes, assist with financing and structure economic assistance packages for new and expanding businesses in the City, and apply for grants and loans on behalf of the City. This group works to plan and develop industrial and business park lands, assist in marketing the City of Columbus, and coordinate the overall economic health of the City.
In addition, the members coordinate a cycle of retention/expansion visits to maintain contact with the business community in areas of labor, land availability, and future expansion planning.
Past practice has developed a very strong industrial base for the City. The CDA has a goal of maintaining and expanding on these past success stories.
