For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Dan Meister. I was sworn in as the new police chief for the City of Columbus on February 1st of this year. I am excited about this challenging and rewarding opportunity to serve the Columbus community.

As a brief background, I am in my 17th year of law enforcement in the State of Wisconsin. Prior to becoming the Columbus police chief, I served as a captain and the acting police chief in Pewaukee, WI. Prior to that, I served as an officer, sergeant and lieutenant with the City of Milwaukee Police Department. I have a diverse background and experience in municipal law enforcement. I look forward to working with the people of Columbus in making this growing city a safe and enjoyable place to live, work, shop and engage in recreational activities.

I am committed to a police department of members who render their service with dignity, trust and professionalism. I am also committed to working with the local residents, businesses, politicians and other professional organizations that have a stake in what happens in this community.

As a way of facilitating and improving two-way communication, I am working with other city officials in making changes to this website in order to allow user input, and to create more access to certain department information.

Last but not least, I would like to express the police department’s appreciation to the community for our new facility. Our new home will allow us to operate more efficiently and more effectively and will provide for future growth issues. We look forward to serving this community from the new public safety building for many years to come.

Your sincere input is welcome. You may contact me by email, phone or in person.

Daniel M. Meister
Chief of Police
City of Columbus
