Work is slated to begin on the STH 16/60 project on March 6th and go through October of this year. The work zone is from River Rd. (Crawfish River Bridge) on the east to U.S. 151 on the west.
The following are some reminders about various laws applicable to motorists driving through a work zone:
- It is illegal to operate a cell phone (except in hands free mode) while driving in a work zone.
- Heavy trucking is prohibited on the residential/side streets. Heavy trucking is allowed on state highways and those streets designated as a heavy truck route with yellow sign posts. In the city of Columbus, Dix St. to Fuller St. to Park Ave. is a designated heavy truck route.
NOTE: Per Wis. § 349.17: “Heavy traffic" means all vehicles not operating completely on pneumatic tires and all vehicles or combination of vehicles, other than motor buses, designed or used for transporting property of any nature and having a gross weight of more than 6,000 pounds.
The WI. Dept. of Transportation has designated authorized detour routes for this project.
Drivers should also be aware of any speed limit changes in or near the work zone.
Fines are double in a work zone
